Cleaning Ingredients That You Should Never Mix

When you are cleaning and not getting the desired results you want, it can be very tempting to start experimenting with the products at hand and mixing them up. This can be dangerous as there are some products that should never be mixed. Mixing different products can cause severe reactions and lead to the formulation of toxic chemicals. The fumes and smoke from the reaction can be hazardous for you and the other members of your family. Hence, it is important that you always read the labels of your chemical products carefully and avoid mixing incompatible chemicals together.

If you are not getting your desired results from chemical cleaning products you own, you can just change your cleaning products and tools. Sometimes the cleaning products you are using are not authentic, and that is why you are not getting the results you want. Hence, it is important that you buy your cleaning products from a professional supplier. In this blog post, we will talk about the chemical products that you should never mix together.

Bleach And Rubbing Alcohol

Bleach and rubbing alcohol is a very dangerous mix, you may have seen it in movies where kidnappers use them together to knock out their victims. That is the reason these two chemicals should never be mixed together. When these two are mixed even in small quantities, the fumes can cause nausea and dizziness, and in cases of high exposure, these chemicals can damage the nervous system, skin, liver, lungs and can even lead to death.

Bleach And Vinegar

Bleach and vinegar both are powerful cleaning agents, and both individually make a good disinfectant. But they should never be combined together because when these two are mixed they produce chlorine gas. When you add bleach to vinegar it releases toxic chlorine. These chloramine vapors combine with the bleach producing a very powerful chlorine gas. Exposure to chlorine gas can cause burning eyes, breathing problems, and coughing. So, you should never mix these two chemicals, not even in small quantities.

Ammonia And Bleach

Mixing bleach and ammonia produces chloramine, which is a dangerous chemical that can cause shortness of breath and chest pain. Inhaling the vapors can result in respiratory damage and throat burns so never mix these two chemicals together. Ammonia is found in many cleaning products, so make sure that you read the labels of your products carefully. Never mix bleach with:

  • Floor wax
  • Drain cleaners
  • Multi-surface cleaners
  • Furniture polish
  • Window, mirror, and glass cleaners
  • Bathroom and toilet cleaners

Drain Cleaners

Drain cleaners are powerful and strong formulas that you use to unclog your sinks and toilets. Dumping a drain cleaner into a clogged sink feels satisfying but if the clog isn’t breaking it can get quite frustrating. When the drain continues to remain blocked you might want to pour in different types of drain cleaners to get rid of the blockage. But, using a different kind of drain cleaner after another can lead to an explosion. Drain cleaners release chlorine gas and when you pour one drain opener on top of the other the released chlorine gas can lead to an explosion.

Vinegar And Hydrogen Peroxide

Vinegar and hydrogen peroxide are both considered great natural cleaning ingredients, but combining them creates peracetic acid. Peracetic acid is a corrosive acid that can damage your skin, eyes, nose, lungs, and throat. So, you should never mix the two together. There are some all-purpose cleaners and disinfectants that contain hydrogen peroxide. Therefore, always make sure that you read all the ingredients listed on the labels of your cleaning products and avoid mixing products together.
